David Cuneo • President/CEO
David Cuneo is the founder of Health Plan Advocate with 30+ years of experience in the health management field. He served as President of the area’s largest non-profit utilization management company for over fifteen years and has had other key leadership responsibilities including management of a physician based PPO Network and serving as the President of HealthCare 2000, a West Michigan based employer purchasing coalition on health.
Mr. Cuneo has served on many local and state boards including the Michigan Association of Health Coalitions, Leadership Grand Rapids Executive Committee, Healthy Kent 2000, Heart Walk Grand Rapids, Tobacco Free Partners, West Michigan Occupational Health Initiative, Chamber of Commerce Health Insurance Committee, United Way Allocations and Review Executive Committee, Legal Aid of Western Michigan, and others. Mr. Cuneo has participated in the Center for Creative Leadership, and Michigan White House Conference on Aging.
Mr. Cuneo holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Bachelor of Science from Grand Valley State University.
Joan Brink • Clinical Manager, RN, BSN, CDMS
Joan Brink is the Clinical Manager at Health Plan Advocate and has been with the company since its start in 2001. She graduated from the Blodgett School of Nursing and the University of Michigan. Joan has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. Her experience includes medical surgical nursing with a specialty in neurological conditions and acute rehabilitation. She has 15+ years working as a case manager for patients with catastrophic and neurological injuries. She helped build HPA from the ground up as the Operations Specialist.
Growing up with both parents in the nursing field, Joan is passionate about nursing and helping people. She took the initiative to improve her own health and wants to use her problem solving skills to help others do the same.
Linda Stauffer • Office Manager
Linda Stauffer has been with us since 2002. Prior to joining HPA, Linda was a Nurse Coordinator at Grand Rapids Pediatrics for four years, a Level III Medical Assistant at Grand Valley Health Plan for five years, and the Audit and Training Manager at Traveler's Insurance for 14 years.
Linda has a well-rounded knowledge of the HPA and experience with the entire scope of our services, from wellness to utilization review. She is known for her compassion and excellent customer service. Being in wellness has given her the opportunity help those around her better understand that good nutrition and exercise habits are important for everyone and you need to be aware of the internal aspects of your body. Helping people recognize the hazards of tobacco use and helping them quit is also a passion for Linda.
Toni Sperlbaum • Vice President of Sales & Marketing
A member of the wellness team since 2013, Toni serves as our Wellness Manager and serves as the primary contact for potential clients and agent partners. She also heads up marketing and program development. She is a Certified Worksite Wellness Program Manager, Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and Certified Worksite Wellness Specialist. Toni also graduated from Grand Valley State University with a degree in Health Administration and has been working in corporate wellness since 2010.
Beth Collins, LPN • Utilization Review & Case Management
Beth Collins has been a part of the utilization review team at HPA since 2010. Before joining HPA, Beth worked for Spectrum Health in critical care, at Amway Corporation in case management, and for Activa Benefits in utilization review, case management, and claims.
She excels at providing professional, emotional, spiritual and physical support and guidance to those with serious conditions and making sure their questions are thoroughly and accurately answered. Beth has always been passionate about disease management and counseling people to encourage healthy lifestyles. She graduated from Grand Rapids Community College with her License in Practical Nursing.
Ryan Hall • Wellness Coordinator
Ryan started working at HPA in January, 2015 and brings 10 years of personal training experience with him. He has his Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science in Exercise Science from Eastern Michigan University. When Ryan is not helping people get healthy at HPA, he is playing with his two children and spending time with his friends and family. Ryan enjoys a number of outdoors activities including; hiking, running and kayaking. He also works out 5-6 days per week and aims to maintain a healthy balance between work and family.
Todd Freitag • Sales & Wellness Coordinator
Todd Freitag has a bachelor's degree in Marketing and a master's degree in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in Cardiac Rehabilitation, both from Eastern Michigan University. He was a personal trainer, a TRX Instructor, a wellness associate and Assistant Director of Membership for 5 years at the Ann Arbor YMCA. He loves golfing, skiing, running, going to the beach, road trips and playing frisbee with his dog. He enjoys being the "go to" person among friends and family on anything health, exercise or injury related topics.
Emily Zoeller • Wellness Coordinator
Emily has her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science with a minor in Spanish and is an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist. Emily’s passion for health and fitness allows her to aid others in accomplishing their goals. Outside of the office, Emily enjoys hiking with her dog Theo, reading, and working out.
Christina Falahee • Wellness Coordinator
Christina has an Exercise Science Degree from Grand Valley State University and is a wellness coordinator at HPA. Her passion is to educate and motivate people about healthy eating and movement. Outside of work, Christina enjoys spending time with friends and doing activities outdoors.
Lisa Hallock • RN, Health Improvement Coordinator
Lisa is a Registered Nurse with her Bachelors of Science Degree from Grand Valley State University and is also a Certified Health Coach. She has worked in the Health and Wellness field since 2004. Lisa is passionate about encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle. Lisa excels at building relationships and providing the professional, emotional and spiritual support to members. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys spending time with family at their cottage, boating, swimming, and kayaking. She enjoys long walks with her dog. Her greatest anticipation is becoming a Grandma soon!
Megan Broderick • Health Advocate
Megan Broderick has been with Health Plan Advocate since July 2015. She started as a Health Screener and Health Coach and since then she has become the Health Advocate at HPA. She has her Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan University in Public Health Education and Health Promotion with a minor in nutrition. Megan is also an ACE certified group fitness instructor and currently teaches boxing and kickboxing classes at a local club. In her spare time she enjoys traveling around to new places, soaking up the sunshine on Lake Michigan and stretching it out with hot yoga after a long day. Megan’s passion includes helping others realize their full potential through fitness, as well as being a positive role model for others by living a healthy lifestyle. Megan is a firm believer in "Practice what you preach!"
